Neuro Disorders | NuBrix Effect
Neurological disorders are medically defined as disorders that affect the brain as well as the nerves found throughout the human body and the spinal cord. These three parts of the body work together and are referred to as the central nervous system that control everything in the body.
One of the main statistic categoriesof the basic disability types is Cognitive disability (serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions because of a physical, mental, or emotional condition) by definition from the American Community Survey - ACS.
NuBrix Games helps with perfecting the three different types of attention that are producing your ability to focus and concentrate in order for the brain to heal and learn:
- Selective attention for focusing on one thing while disregarding others.
- Divided attention, also known as “attention switching,” for managing and processing multiple sources of information at the same time. Divided attention is especially vulnerable to changes as you get older.
- Sustained attention for staying focused on something for a long time. The aging process does not necessarily affect sustained attention. Your brain sorts and routes information so you can focus amid all the distractions and input that bombard you every day.

ADHD + ADD
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - Similar to hyperkinetic disorder (in the ICD-10) is a developmental neuropsychiatric disorder in which there are significant problems with executive functions (e.g., attentional control and inhibitory control) that cause attention deficits, hyperactivity, or impulsiveness which is not appropriate for a person's age. In school-aged individuals’ inattention symptoms often result in poor school performance.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder predominantly inattentive (ADHD-PI), formerly attention deficit disorder (ADD), is one of the two types of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The term was formally changed in 1994 in the new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM-IV), to "ADHD predominantly inattentive" (ADHD-PI or ADHD-I).
The NuBrix Effect: The NuBrix concepts allow family and friends to pace loved ones by introducing simple task repetition and recognition of basic shape, color and math cognition effort. Use NuBrix as a focus tool and progress through simple to complex levels. NuBrix was also designed to engage motor skills and provides a real time spatial orientation environment. Therapists endorse the use of NuBrix as an assessment tool for professionals and family to measure and see positive cognitive results.
Alzheimer's disease (AD), also referred to as just Alzheimer's, accounts for 60% to 70% of cases of dementia. It is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and gets worse over time. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events (short term memory loss). As the disease advances, symptoms can include: problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self-care, and behavioral issues.
Dementia is defined as a group of symptoms affecting memory, thinking and social abilities severely enough to interfere with daily functioning. Alzheimer's Disease is currently the most common type of dementia, affecting about 5 million Americans. Although most types of dementia get worse over time, there are drugs that might help with behavior changes and other symptoms.
The NuBrix Effect: NuBrix provides caregivers a simple tool to engage clients or loved ones by introducing tasks like recognition of shapes, matching colors and basic math. Using NuBrix concepts will help set a pace for each individual and progress them through simple to complex levels of focus and concentration. NuBrix will challenge motor skills and provide a real spatial orientation environment. NuBrix is an assessment tool for professionals and family to measure and see positive cognitive results. Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child's life. The signs typically develop gradually, but some children with autism will reach their developmental milestones at a normal pace and then regress.
The NuBrix Effect: The NuBrix concepts allow family and friends to pace loved ones by introducing simple task repetition. Start out building brick structures then introduce connecting with colors and adding numbers. It’s simple, but engages the basic neuro pathways to focus. NuBrix was also designed to engage motor skills and provides a real time spatial orientation environment. Use NuBrix as a focus tool and progress through simple to complex levels and see the results. Because NuBrix is a simple task game it will help calm the brain and allow the cognitive processes to begin and shine.
Brain Injury, Traumatic
Traumatic brain injury (TBI), also known as intracranial injury, occurs when an external force traumatically injures the brain. TBI can be classified based on severity and mechanism (closed or penetrating head injury). Traumatic brain injury usually results from a violent blow or jolt to the head or body.TBI is a leading cause of disability around the globe and presents a major worldwide social, economic, and health problem.

A mental challenge is any disease or condition affecting the brain that influences the way a person thinks, feels, behaves and/or relates to others and to his or her surroundings. Although the exact cause of most mental challenges is not known, it is becoming clear through research that many of these conditions are caused by a combination of genetic, biological, psychological and environmental factors. One thing is for sure--mental challenges are not the result of personal weakness, a character defect or poor upbringing, and recovery from a mental challenge is not simply a matter of will and self-discipline.
Examples of Mental Challenges Include: Depression /Bipolar disorder, Anxiety disorder, Schizophrenia, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Stress disorder, Social phobia, Eating disorders(anorexia, bulimia or over-eating),and many forms of addictions.
The NuBrix Effect: NuBrix game concepts provide simple task repetition and recognition of basic shape, color and math cognition. Family and friends can use the NuBrix five basic concepts as a focus tool and progress from simple to complex tasks. NuBrix play will engage motor skills and help with real spatial orientation movement. NuBrix will give family and friends a real sense of empowerment in an activity meant for changing lives. Fun memories start when families reconnect with loved ones and share life’s simple moments. Because this activity is centered around focus, it enables all players to engage and benefit from a concentration exercise that can be used in real life experiences.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)is a mental health condition that is classified as a trauma and stressor-related disorder. PTSD is diagnosed based on criteria that look at different types of symptoms. There are four different groups of symptoms that PTSD diagnostic criteria take into account. These four groups and examples of each type of symptom include:
- Intrusion Symptoms: nightmares related to the traumatic event, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts or memories, psychological and physical reactivity to reminders of the traumatic event.
- Avoidance Symptoms: avoiding situations that remind you of the traumatic event, avoiding thoughts or feelings connected to the traumatic event.
- Negative Changes in Cognitions & Mood: memory problems, negative thoughts/beliefs about one's self or others, severe emotions related to the trauma such as shame or sadness, reduced interest in activities enjoyed prior to the traumatic event, feeling detached, isolated, or disconnected from others.
- Changes in Arousal & Reactivity: feeling jittery or always on alert, and an easy startle response.

Using NuBrix concepts will help set a pace for each individual and progress them through simple to complex levels of focus and concentration. NuBrix will challenge motor skills and provide a real spatial orientation environment. NuBrix is an IN THE MOMENT activity. Engaging in focused play will provide a mindful action for a calming effect. NuBrix has been in use with veterans and active.
Stress can be defined as the brain's response to any demand. Many things can trigger this response, including change. Changes can be positive or negative, as well as real or perceived. They may be recurring, short-term, or long-term and may include things like commuting to and from school or work every day, traveling for a yearly vacation, or moving to another home. Changes can be mild and relatively harmless, such as winning a race, watching a scary movie, or riding a rollercoaster. Some changes are major, such as marriage or divorce, serious illness, or a car accident. Other changes are extreme, such as exposure to violence, and can lead to traumatic stress reactions.
There are at least three different types of stress, all of which carry physical and mental health risks:
- Routine stress related to the pressures of work, family and other daily responsibilities.
- Stress brought about by a sudden negative change, such as losing a job, divorce, or illness.
- Traumatic stress, experienced in an event like a major accident, war, assault, or a natural disaster where one may be seriously hurt or in danger of being killed.
The body responds to each type of stress in similar ways. Different people may feel it in different ways. For example, some people experience mainly digestive symptoms, while others may have headaches, sleeplessness, depressed mood, anger and irritability.
The effects of stress tend to build up over time. Taking practical steps to maintain your health and outlook can reduce or prevent these effects.
